Windows Server 2016 Standard is for physical or minimally virtualised environments. 
	 
	 
Licensing for Windows Server 2016 Standard is Core-based (i.e. based on the number of cores in the server). A minimum 16 core licenses is required for each server.  Core licences are sold in packs of two. Your order must be for a minimum of 8. 
	 
	 
CALs are required. 
	 
	 
Standard Edition provides rights for up to two OSEs or Hyper-V containers when all physical cores in the server are licensed. For every two additional VMs, all the cores in the server have to be licensed again.
